  Dr Raj Raja Rayan OBE
Trustee, Chair

Raj was a former Dean of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK), The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is currently the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Dentistry with the London Deanery.

He is the first and only member of the Black and Minority ethnic community to hold a Deanship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He founded the National Centre for Transcultural Oral Health at the Eastman Dental Institute and was co-author of the publication 'Dentists Patients Minorities' sponsored by the Department of Health. He was a member of Sir Nigel Crisps Black and Minority Ethnic leadership forum and is a member of NCCA Equality and Diversity Forum. He is an elected member of his professional regulatory body, the General Dental Council. He lectures internationally and has published in many standards documents. He was awarded the OBE in 1999 for services to dental education and in 2005, given the 'Humanitarian Award' in Canada by the Academy of Dentistry International.



  Mr Maqsood Ahmed OBE
Trustee

Maqsood Ahmed was appointed as Adviser to the Home Office in the Faith Communities Unit in 2003 and now advises on faith and preventing extremism issues.

Maqsood was awarded an OBE for his groundbreaking work as the first Muslim Adviser to the HM Prison Service. His work with the Prison Chaplaincy now reflects all religions providing pastoral care to prisoners.

Maqsood’s background includes anti-poverty and racial equality work which he did for 15 years. Maqsood is passionate about the drug and alcohol addiction and its impact on diverse communities.

Maqsood is a Fellow of the Faith and Civil Society of Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge and an executor member of Central Mosque/Islamic Centre, Leicester.

Maqsood was recently awarded the Muslim News Award of excellence 2008 for his services in improving community relations.



  Mr. Harbhajan Singh Brar
Trustee

Harbhajan Singh Brar is a Justice of the Peace and is currently employed as the Human Resources Director at the Department of Health.

Harbhajan has worked as a Director of Human Resources in several different organisations, including Barnet & Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Trust and Lewisham College.

Harbhajan has also held the posts of Director of Strategic Recovery as well as the Head of Pay and Employee Relations and Head of Equalities in local government. and served on the Boards of NHS Employers and NHS Professionals.

Harbhajan has over 23 years experience in the field of human resources and has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (FCIPD) for over 12 years.

Previously Harbhajan worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations (CRER) based at Warwick University, where he taught on the MA course in Race and Ethnic relations as well as researched and wrote several books and articles in the field of equal opportunities. He co-authored three research studies; ‘Ealing's Dilemma - Implementing Race Equality’; ‘Invisible Minorities - Racism in New Towns and New Contexts’ and ‘Race Equality and the Local State’.



  Ms Perminder Dhillon BSc MA
Chief Executive Officer (part-time)

Perminder Dhillon is an equality consultant and trainer specialising in personal and organisational development. Perminder has a background in NLP, psychology, training and media production.
Her broad experience in the field of addiction over the past ten years includes research, project development and management as well as production of multi-lingual education resources.

As CEO for Drug and Alcohol Action Programme, Perminder manages the charity she founded six years ago to disseminate alcohol, drug and Khat education. Prior to this, Perminder worked for the Centre for Ethnicity and Health, Faculty of Health, University of Central Lancashire as a Senior Lecturer and equality training manager. She led on a number of national research, service and training projects on addiction and equality and produced a number of multi-lingual drug education resources for national use.

Perminder has worked on equality issues for over twenty years both as an independent consultant and in a variety of posts in the statutory, voluntary, and education sectors including for BBC television and radio.

Perminder has authored over fourteen publications on equality and addiction issues and worked on six broadcast documentaries.
